In the meantime, I combined these two objects:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpbJwwE1tI/AAAAAAAAAFc/2j7z0TgYxw8/s320/DSCN0074.JPG" width="320" /></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
First I had to crack open the flash drive, which wasn't terribly difficult.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpb4CdIjUI/AAAAAAAAAFs/ciSpBbTPvDs/s1600/DSCN0078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpb4CdIjUI/AAAAAAAAAFs/ciSpBbTPvDs/s320/DSCN0078.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
And then, the GBA cartridge, which was even easier. Apparently this is what a naked GBA game looks like:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpczis6n6I/AAAAAAAAAGA/4rgFHwJB2YI/s1600/DSCN0083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpczis6n6I/AAAAAAAAAGA/4rgFHwJB2YI/s320/DSCN0083.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
THEN came the hard part. Cutting notches in the plastic casing so I could actually put the flash drive inside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpc_oDmxgI/AAAAAAAAAGE/RDKffvO3HIU/s1600/DSCN0084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpc_oDmxgI/AAAAAAAAAGE/RDKffvO3HIU/s320/DSCN0084.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
But, two knives, twenty minutes, and some brute force later... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpdPH-QAlI/AAAAAAAAAGI/EE75dOAQLTY/s1600/DSCN0085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpdPH-QAlI/AAAAAAAAAGI/EE75dOAQLTY/s320/DSCN0085.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpddkceJmI/AAAAAAAAAGM/xn0vX9Lkm-8/s1600/DSCN0087.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpddkceJmI/AAAAAAAAAGM/xn0vX9Lkm-8/s320/DSCN0087.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpdpW5oMEI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/jcGzx_rDa10/s1600/DSCN0088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTpdpW5oMEI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/jcGzx_rDa10/s320/DSCN0088.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
My dad came home while I was in the middle of this project.<br />
<br />
Dad: "What are you doing??"<br />
Me: "Uh...putting a flash drive inside a Gameboy Advance game?"<br />
Dad: "How do you know that'll work?"<br />
Me: "I guess I'll try it and find out."<br />
Dad: "What a hacker."<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1148341024834475234-7099218859694861560?l=ruckusss.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Ruckushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04444117563053901245noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1148341024834475234.post-23103921639103820192011-01-20T20:42:00.000-08:002011-01-20T20:43:15.327-08:002011-01-20T20:43:15.327-08:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkALbLvBmI/AAAAAAAAAEg/9UNuxiQYyjc/s1600/p37p.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkALbLvBmI/AAAAAAAAAEg/9UNuxiQYyjc/s320/p37p.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Why didn't I throw this shit away? I've had this shitty, third-party, wired 360 controller with a broken right trigger lying around...since high school. I obviously can't use it for shooters or....well, or ANY game, really.<br />
<br />
But stop - emulation time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkDSHu6cRI/AAAAAAAAAEk/OBvE0pLnogI/s1600/mega+man.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkDSHu6cRI/AAAAAAAAAEk/OBvE0pLnogI/s320/mega+man.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Also... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkD0fkBqFI/AAAAAAAAAEs/AkIfYdWx1-M/s1600/smb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-yNhois9jf4/TTkD0fkBqFI/AAAAAAAAAEs/AkIfYdWx1-M/s400/smb.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I had been getting ready to either trash it or take it apart and try to mod it into something else...a feat that doesn't really seem feasible with a 360 controller - unless I wanted to use it as a vibrator or a <a href="http://www.techaworld.com/gamer-uses-an-xbox-360-controller-the-bong-way/">bong</a>.<br />
<br />
So instead, I'm going to try turn an old NES or SNES cartridge into a powered USB hub. There are plenty of tutorials available for game cartridges into <i>non</i>-powered hubs (like <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Snes-cartridge-usb-hub/step1/1-Prepare-the-hubcartridge/">this one</a>, which sounds super simple)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/snes-catridge-usb-hub_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/snes-catridge-usb-hub_1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
but my PC actually has <i>more</i> USB ports than my bus' power can support...wtf. So I want to see if I can do it with a powered one, which I'd actually use - I just ordered a cheap one off of Amazon, in case I fuck it all up. I don't really see why using a hub with an A/C adapter would be any different, but maybe there's a reason no one's done it before.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1148341024834475234-2310392163910382019?l=ruckusss.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Ruckushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04444117563053901245noreply@blogger.com0
